Teriyaki tofu steaks are a good way to introduce someone to tofu. It is crispy and full of flavor. I developed this recipe one day while trying to think of a different way to enjoy tofu and make something that everyone would love. It has now become one of our favorite ways to eat tofu.
- 1 Package Firm Tofu
- 1 Cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt garlic
- 1/2 pepper
- 1 Cup Favorite Teriyaki Sauce
- Olive Oil for shallow frying
Step 1. Drain liquid from tofu and place on plate lined with paper towels.
Step 2. Plate folded paper towels on top of tofu and place another plate on top.
Step 3. Place a heavy bowl of water on top of the plate to help drain the liquid out of the tofu. Make sure the bowl is not so heavy that it breaks the tofu. Leave for 30 minutes or over night until tofu is mostly dry.
Step 4. While tofu is drying or when you are ready to use it prepaid the flour, sesame seed, and egg.
Flour Mixture Step 5. Place flour into bowl and mix in 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Set to the side.
Sesame Seed Mixture Step 6. Pour sesame seeds into a bowl and mix in 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Set to the side.
Egg Mixture Step 7. Whisk egg in bowl and add a small pinch of salt and garlic and sit to the side.
Step 8. Pour enough oil in a pan to where you can fry half of the tofu and heat on medium heat until it is hot enough for frying.
Step 9. Place dry tofu in flour mixture and flip until fully coated.
Step 10. Place floured tofu into egg mixture and flip until fully coated.
Step 11. Place egged and floured tofu into sesame seed mixture and flip until fully coated.
Step 12. Fry tofu until sesame seeds are golden brown and move to paper towel to get rid of oil.
Step 13. Heat teriyaki sauce in sauce pan until thinner. Turn off heat and add tofu steaks flip until fully coated and enjoy.
