Dutch Baby Recipe

One day while watching a cartoon with the children one of the cartoon characters asked to go out to get a “Dutch Baby”. At this point I never heard of a Dutch Baby and neither did the other characters in the show. Their reactions were priceless and I was fully committed to watching the rest of episode to see what it was. It turned out that a Dutch Baby seemed to be a food that looked like a pancake so I googled search to the term and viola knowledge was acquired. The only problem was no where even within an 100 mile radius of us served Dutch Baby’s. However I was determined and decided to make one myself and fell instantly in love with these little cute bundles of joy that come straight out of the oven like all good babies should ;).

Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Milk Room Temperature
  • 3 Eggs Room Temperature
  • 4 Tablespoons Salted Butter
  • ½ Cup Flour
  • Powdered Sugar For Sprinkling
  • 1 Tablespoon Sugar
  •  ¼ Teaspoon Nutmeg

Directions

Step 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Step 2. Mix flour, sugar, nutmeg, and eggs together until smooth. (It works best if you mix them in a blender.)

Step 3. Place butter in a 10 inch iron skillet and melt butter over medium heat until completely melted.

Step 4. Add batter to skillet and quickly put it in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.

Step 5. Turn oven off and let sit in oven for 5 to 10 minutes until done.

Step 6. Remove Dutch Baby from oven and dust with powdered sugar.

Tip: If you like cinnamon you can also sprinkle a little cinnamon on top and serve with maple syrup or honey.
