Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

Fall is in full swing my friends and that means that some of our tomatoes didn’t have time to ripen. This may sound like a bad thing, but it is actually exciting. Why, because we get to make fried green tomatoes! Green Tomatoes are prefect for frying because they are crispy, tangy, and won’t get soggy. If your garden has gifted you with green tomatoes or your local grocer has, then you have to try this delicious recipe.

Ingredients

6 Small Green Tomatoes

½ Cup Cornmeal

½ Cup All-Purpose Flour

½ Teaspoon Garlic Powder

1/2 Teaspoon Onion Powder

1 Teaspoon Salt

1/4 Teaspoon Pepper

1 Egg

Olive Oil (For frying)

Instructions

Step 1 – Add all dry ingredients (except for the flour) into a bowl and mix until well combined. The add the all-purpose flour into a separate bowl.

Step 2 – Beat egg until it is fully mixed.

Step 3 – Heat ½ inch of olive oil in a frying pan.

Step 4 – While the oil is heating slice the tomatoes 1/3 of an inch thick.

Step 5 – Dredge the tomato slices in flour mix and then in the egg, and then the flour mix again, then in the seasoned corn meal.

Step 6 – Carefully add tomato slices in the hot oil, add as many as you can comfortably work with and make sure they are not touching. Fry each side until they are golden brown in each side.

Step 7 – Once the tomatoes are done take them out of the oil and place then on plate covered with paper towels. Make sure to flip them after a while to soak off the excess oil. Once they are cool enough to eat they are ready to enjoy.

Tip – They taste really good plain or with your favorite dip.
