Half Wheat Half White Flour Focaccia Bread Recipe

Homemade Focaccia bread has slowly started to become a weekend stable here at Our Little Chateau. It has become a member of the Three F’s Club fast, fun, and fantastic to make. It is even dare I say taking pizzas place. The dough is fast to make, soft, flavourful, and you can put any toppings you want on it and it still comes out prefect. Yes that includes pizza sauce, because the bread will not get soggy even if you don’t per bake it. I like to make half wheat flour and half white flour so it has a healthier element but also has the gluten it needs to be very elastic and bouncy. Well let’s roll up our sleeves and dig our fingers in, literally.

Recipe:

  • 2 3/4 cups wheat flour
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cup warm water
  • Extra olive oil for rubbing on hand and on top of bread

Instructions:

Step 1. Add all dry ingredients to machine mixer and mix until well combined.

Step 2. Add warm water and oil and kneed until well combined and then kneed on low for 5 minutes or until dough is no longer sticky to touch.

Step 3. Cover with warm damp tea towel and let rest for 20 minutes.

Step 4. Preheat oven to 450°F and prepare whatever topping you w I do like to put on top of your bread.

Step 5. oil your hand and take dough out of the bowl and place onto parchment lined extra large baking sheet. (Note that this recipe is for two batches or one extra large baking pan. You can cut the dough in half and place it on two large or medium baking pans which is what I normal do to make two different kinds of Focaccia bread.) Flatten dough to the shape of the pan and press down with finger tips making little finger indents all over the surface. Rub or brush with olive oil. Bake bread in the oven for 15minutes and enjoy.

I hope you like this recipe as much as we do. Focaccia bread is very versatile and can be made with many different seasonings and with out without topping. You can make pizza, bread sticks, or even sandwiches with the bread.
